Moving Between Worlds: summer workshop with Andrea Olsen and Caryn McHose

Dancers and artists from any field as well as anyone interested in exploring movement and embodiment in depth are invited to a weekend residency workshop with renowned movement and dance artists Andrea Olsen and Caryn McHose (US) to explore moving between worlds: inner and outer; self and other; self and Earth.

Moving Between Worlds: Seven Practices to Refresh Ease and Inspiration

Friday 30 June – Sunday 2 July / Bergen Danssenter

“Betweenness is a central theme. We wake in the morning, move from silence to speaking, indoors to outdoors, private to public, and personal to professional with multiple transitions. As we communicate with different parts of ourselves, fellow humans, and our surroundings, we cross thresholds from one dimensional realm to another. Amidst all these transitions not-knowing is constant: there is a gap between where we were and where we are going…In this state of betweenness, we are immersed in fresh possibility.”
(From Olsen’s Moving Between Worlds, A Guide to Embodied Living and Communicating, Wesleyan University Press, 2022

Together, we will explore movement practices that you can do on your own to establish the delicious flow between groundedness and spaciousness in daily life or artistic practice. Drawing on the body of work developed by Andrea Olsen and Caryn McHose over the past four decades in experiential anatomy and authentic movement, we move, write, and reflect on the process of perceiving freshly in service of more conscious living and making.

The workshop is held in English.
